Aksharabhyasam

It is a Hindu ritual that marks the beginning of a child's formal education usually done when the child turns two or two and a half year old.

Aksharabhyasam is a traditional Hindu ceremony marking the beginning of a child’s formal education, usually held when the child is around 3 to 5 years old. The term Akshara means "letters" and Abhyasam means "learning" or "practice." This ritual is an auspicious occasion where the child is introduced to the world of letters and learning.

During the ceremony, the child is typically made to write the first letters of the alphabet, often on a plate of rice or a slate, with the guidance of the priest or an elder. The ritual is accompanied by prayers and mantras invoking blessings for wisdom, knowledge, and success in the child’s educational journey. The family members and relatives also participate in the celebration, offering blessings for the child’s future.

Aksharabhyasam signifies the start of the child's academic path and is believed to ensure a successful, prosperous, and knowledgeable future for the child.
