Maasikam

Maasikam is a traditional Hindu ritual performed to commemorate the death anniversary of a loved one, typically observed 12th month after their passing. The ceremony is aimed at honoring the deceased and seeking blessings for their soul's peaceful journey in the afterlife. Maasikam involves offering prayers, Tarpanam (water offerings), and Pinda Daan (rice ball offerings) to ensure the spiritual well-being of the departed.

During the ritual, the family gathers to perform specific rites and mantras, invoking peace and protection for the soul. The offerings are made to ensure that the deceased is freed from any karmic debts and receives blessings for their journey. It is also a time for the family to reflect on their memories and express gratitude.

The Maasikam is followed by feasts or community gatherings, with family members giving alms to the poor or making charitable donations as an act of goodwill, helping ensure the soul’s eternal peace and blessings.
