Ayushyahomam

It is a ritual that involves worshipping the god of life, Ayur Devatha, to improve health, wealth and longevity. It is performed during the first birthday of the baby and subsequently for anyone at any age.

Ayushyahomam is a Hindu ritual performed to seek blessings for the long life, good health, and well-being of a child, typically conducted during their early years, often around the age of 1 or 3. It is a vital ceremony, especially in South Indian traditions, to protect the child from evil forces and ensure their longevity. The word Ayushya translates to life, and Homam refers to a fire ritual in which offerings are made to invoke divine blessings.

During Ayushyahomam, a priest leads the ceremony, and offerings such as ghee, grains, and other sacred materials are made into the fire while chanting specific mantras. The ceremony is often accompanied by prayers for the child’s health, success, and a prosperous life. Family members gather to bless the child, celebrating the occasion with joy and auspicious rituals. This ceremony is believed to ensure the child's protection and help in leading a healthy and fulfilling life.
